moratorium on registrations for comments

Since I’ve been neglecting to manage comments here for a long time, only logging in to occasionally purge the spammy ones and the spam users who made them, I’ve turned off registration. I haven’t purged the existing users but new ones are going to have to go through me directly instead of the form now, I guess.

3D schmee D

I can’t really remember the first movie I went to see in 3D. I think it may have been an attraction at Universal Studios, that Terminator 3D thing. I remember being very impressed then but my young status may have affected how easily impressed I was.

More recently, I find myself coming to find the trend of movies in 3D to be a little tiresome. Roger Ebert who is no fan has said as much about 3D in a variety of places. I think he’s got a lot of pretty good points.

The first movie I’ve seen so far that I think really did a great job of using 3D was Avatar. That’s the only one though. I had a great time seeing it, it looked great, it was fun and bright and vibrant and generally a good time. I admit, I haven’t seen it in 2D and so can’t really compare but, still. Actually that’s true for all of the movies I’ve seen in 3D with the single exception of Up! which I feel didn’t really benefit from it very much, either.

Yesterday, I went and saw Alice in Wonderland and it was to me a pretty big disappointment. Not just the 3D-ness of it, which was pretty bleh, but in general the sort of discombobulated sense of confusion I had through much of it. I guess a lot of people say they enjoy the fanciful sense of whimsy something something Alice something blah blah but I just got annoyed and bored by turns while watching it.

Update: I saw How to Train your Dragon and actually that wasn’t that bad either. We’ll see, maybe when Toy Story 3 comes out here it’ll be improved for having 3D too.

So I guess they released WordPress 2 and when I upgraded to it, I lost a lot of stuff I had before. I’ve done away with the whole user-levels thing, which is in a way the original motivation for switching to wordpress, but since then I’ve found enough compelling features to stick with using it. Mostly I’m too lazy to switch to anything again. Everybody got demoted to subscriber who was a registered user of any kind before. Now I’m going to go and finish making changes to the template which I’d made before.

So a few minutes ago, I did the whole stare-at-colored-lines thing to see the McCulloch Effect for myself. It’s pretty cool, so far. Depending on how the next day+ goes, I’ll let you know how long it stays with me. Conclusions as to my extravertedness can follow later. As a note, I stared at the images for only about 4 minutes.

Be warned, apparently you should seriously consider not doing this if you’re worried about seeing the colors for a long time after, because it can stay with you for a very long time.

I’ve got it all, but I feel so deprived. I go up, I come down and I’m emptier inside. Tell me what it is this thing that I’m missing, and why can’t I let it go? There’s got to be more to life than chasing down every momentary high to satisfy me, cause the more that I’m tripping out thinking there must be more to life… well it’s life but I’m sure… there’s got to be more than wanting more.

I’ve got this time and I’m wasting it slowly, here in this moment halfway out the door, onto the next thing. I’m searching for something that’s missing. I want more. I’m always waiting on something other than this, why am I feeling like there’s something I missed?
