Originally I was going to write a post about how pissed off I was that the hot water heater had broken where I am currently staying, and it was going to force me to have to carry a towel and a change of clothes over to my great aunt’s apartment every time I wanted to shower until it was repaired, but, then, this morning, (the day after I discovered it was in fact quite broken), the repair guy showed up, and it is as good as when I first got here, better even!

Other than that, not a whole lot has been going on for me. I learned a new card game this weekend, though it wasn’t completely new. It was like Asshole/Feudal Wars/whatever you want to call it, except with more people, a few more rules and teams. It was a fun time, and I met a bunch of new people, although I didn’t quite catch what it was they all do.

Part of me was thinking how the very notion of going to play cards with a bunch of married couples with kids seemed like it probably wouldn’t really happen were I not here in China. Is that a good or a bad thing? I have no idea, but just being an expat in Shanghai means that the kind of people I will meet is quite different I think than the kinds of people I’d be meeting were I somewhere in the US.

Eh, oh well. The game was fun, and I do hope that they’ll decide to play again some time.
