While I was sitting around on Monday morning with a bit of a headache, I decided to watch an episode of FLCL. I selected the 4th one, where the giant baseball-bomb is flying towards the city.

Much of the episode seems to hang on whether or not the protagonist ultimately does decide to “swing the bat”, that is, to actually try and put himself at risk for failure. Previously he never swung, because if he never did, he’ll never know if his failure was because he couldn’t do it or just because he didn’t try, nevermind that he also can’t ever succeed.

I feel like maybe too often I trap myself with similar thinking, about how if I just don’t try, I won’t have to deal with the possible consequence of having tried and still failing. It seems like such a terrible way to think about actions though, so we’ll see if it persists for me.
